The barely concealed intention of this bottle is to offer a different vision of the Lalande de Pomerol terroir. No input. No safety net. No compromise.
This pure Merlot is a wine of contrasts.
A classic thanks to its location, close to the 12th century church of Lalande de Pomerol.
Confounding with its dazzling insolence of fruit and tannins.
The character of a wine is drawn from the elements that the vine has been able to draw from its soil, its environment, and its terroir.
Some things can be quantified, others cannot. You have to use all of your senses to become aware of these.
How can a wine transmit so much energy to us? How can it give us such a wide range of emotion?
Making wine sounds simple, and in fact, it is. Harvest when the ripeness is right, cellar it and wait. Let time and nature do their work, without haste...
And that is the hardest thing to do, to do nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
We don’t add any chemical inputs, sulphites, or selected yeasts. We don’t carry out any disturbing interventions, fining or filtration before bottling.
Every winemaker has their fears and doubts. Some of them swim in certainty. And when this guides their actions, it affects the taste of the wine.
Brut(es) is a pure expression of the fruit, incisive yet explosive. There’s no doubt about that.
Serve it slightly chilled and let it warm slowly in your glass for even more velvety tannins.
This bottle will go particularly well with a prime rib of beef on a bed of potatoes.
